Aretusa — an ancient fountain on the seashore with thickets of papyrus and waterfowl.
According to legend, the nymph Arethusa was turned into a fountain by the goddess Artemis to protect her from the divine river Alfeo, who tried to seduce her. However, Alfeo did not give up and went underground to surface in the harbor next to his beloved. Today, the fountain is a meeting place for local Syracuses, and papyri grow in its waters.
