The Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz is an exceptional example of landscape design and planning of the Age of the Enlightenment, the 18th century. Oranienbaum is a palace and park ensemble of the late 17th — early 18th centuries, located in the German city of Oranienbaum-Wörlitz in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. It is part of the Park Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, and thus included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The construction of the palace began in 1681 by order of Johann George II, and continued until about 1685. After the death of Johann George II in 1693, Oranienbaum became the widow's residence of Henrietta Katharina, and was rebuilt in 1698-1702, acquiring, in general, its modern look; in the basement floor, the Summer Dining Hall, richly decorated with Delft tiles, has been preserved from this time.
