Les Toiles de FAKAHA — unique style of African painting
.
.
Fahaka is a village in the north of Côte d'Ivoire , near the town of Korhogo and which is renowned for the manufacture of fabrics called «toiles de Korhogo». These are made in "natural paint" on an ecru cotton fabric.
Initially, the drawings were made on the walls to decorate the houses. One individual, Soro Donisongui, began painting them on canvas in the 1940s (according to another version, he was simply the village chief). He became famous locally after publicizing his work at the Independence Day in 1965 commemorated that year in Korhogo (the holiday was celebrated in a different locality each year) then, to meet demand , trained many men in the village.

According to a myth carefully maintained by the inhabitants of the village, these paintings would have strongly inspired Pablo Picasso during an (imaginary) trip to the region in 1968
